Authorities: 3 injured in crash that shut down US-131 for hours

OSHTEMO TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities say three people were taken to the hospital after a crash in Kalamazoo County that shut down US-131 for several hours.

The crash happened around 3:49 p.m. on the southbound side of the freeway between Stadium Drive and Parkview Avenue in Oshtemo Township. Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s deputies say a semi truck was not able to stop for slow-moving vehicles, striking the SUV. The SUV then struck a minivan.

Crews had to extricate two people from their vehicles. Authorities say one person in the minivan was taken to the hospital in serious condition. Two people from the SUV were also taken to the hospital. Authorities say one of them is in serious condition, the other in critical condition.

Authorities initially reported that four vehicles were involved in the crash, however, it was later reported that three vehicles were involved.

The freeway was shut down for around four hours while crews cleaned up and investigated the scene.
