KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — A man who was a leader in Kalamazoo’s educational community and its chapter of the NAACP has died.
Dr. Charles Warfield died Sunday morning after a battle with cancer, MLive reports.
He worked for more than 40 years at Western Michigan University before retiring in 2013, according to MLive, and also previously sat on the Kalamazoo Public Schools Board of Education.
He was also the president of the Metropolitan Kalamazoo Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
In a post on its Facebook page, Kalamazoo Public Schools expressed condolences to Warfield’s family, specifically his wife Dr. Martha Warfield, who currently sits on its board of education.
