PORT SHELDON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A 4-year-old was seriously hurt in a crash north of Holland Wednesday morning.
The crash happened around 10:40 a.m. at the intersection of New Holland Street and 144th Avenue in Port Sheldon Township. Drivers on New Holland have stop signs at that intersection, while through traffic on 144th does not.
The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office says Robert Flournoy was driving a Ford Expedition on New Holland when he failed to yield to a pickup truck hauling a sailboat that was headed south on 144th. The pickup collided with the Expedition.
Flournoy’s 4-year-old passenger, Leyara Potts, was hospitalized with serious injuries. Leyara was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
The drivers of both vehicles — Flournoy, 46, of Holland and 47-year-old Samuel Hansen from Hudsonville — sustained minor injuries.
