Portland Goodwill to reopen after destroyed by tornado

PORTLAND, Mich. (WOOD) — Over a year after it was destroyed by an EF-1 tornado, the Goodwill in Portland will be opening its doors once again.

The Goodwill of Greater Grand Rapids will be holding a ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday, June 25 at 9 a.m. for their Portland store located at 1320 E. Grand River Avenue.

On June 22, 2015, the Goodwill store collapsed as the twister swept through Portland, leaving customers trapped inside. No one inside was killed.

During the ribbon ceremony, the customers who were inside the store when it collapsed will be recognized.

The new building will be larger than the old facility with the addition of a career services office.
