Deputies: Woman, 91, critically injured in Polkton Twp. crash

POLKTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputies say a 91-year-old woman was critically injured in a two-vehicle crash Saturday.

The crash happened at 4:25 p.m. on Cleveland Street near 88th Avenue in Polkton Township. Deputies say a vehicle driven by 54-year-old James Lenger was westbound on Cleveland Street and was slowing down to turn onto 88th Avenue. Larry Dorwin, 55, was driving behind him and could not stop in time before striking the back of the van.

Dorwin’s rear-seat passenger, 91-year-old Angeline Welsh, was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Authorities say she was not wearing her seat belt. Dorwin, Lenger, and Dorwin’s front-seat passenger, Christine Dorwin, were all wearing seat belts and were not injured.

The crash is under investigation, but authorities say alcohol is not a factor.
