GRAND RAPIDS, Mich (WOOD) For more than 2 decades Maranda has brought free summer fun to kids across West Michigan. Now she’s branching out and helping the children of Flint in the process.
Maranda and the Park Party crew is heading to Flint for an afternoon of free fun on Friday, June 17 at Mott Community College. From noon until 2 p.m., kids and families are encouraged to come out for free food, prizes, games, and entertainment. This is the first Maranda Park Party happening outside of West Michigan, and Maranda could not be more thrilled.
“I am so excited to bring a Maranda Park Party to Flint, Michigan! Like many, my heart breaks for the children and families impacted by the Flint water crisis,” Maranda said.
“As I thought about the situation, I wanted to do something to help and it brought me to the very reason we’ve been doing Park Parties in West Michigan for the past 22 years — to provide an afternoon of free, no strings attached fun to kids who need it. I contacted our key partners and asked if they would be open to bringing a Park Party to the children of Flint. I was thrilled at their responses! Everyone is invited and everything is free!”
Partnering with Mott Community College and Ferris State University, kids will enjoy free lunches from USDA, the Michigan Department of Education and Flint Public Schools. Children will get free backpacks, ice cream, books, toothbrushes, apples, and more! Entertainment includes music, dancing, Ronald McDonald, and lots of prizes! There will be a 3D climbing wall, giant slide, and extreme obstacle course. Transitions School of Cosmetology Careers at Mott Community College will provide free haircuts for children. The Detroit Pistons Dance Team and mascot Hooper will also stop by the event!
