GRAND HAVEN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Two men were pinned into their car when it crashed into a semi-truck trailer caring a 40,000-pound load south of Grand Haven Tuesday.
The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office says the driver of a small car rear-ended the semi’s trailer as he merged onto northbound US-31 from Lincoln Avenue in Grand Haven Township. The car hit the back axel of the trailer, was shoved into a ditch and rolled.
The driver of the car, 25-year-old Eric Potgeter, and his passenger, 29-year-old Dustin Hetland, had to be rescued by emergency responders.
Both were taken to North Ottawa Community Hospital, where they were listed in good condition Tuesday night.
The driver of the semi-truck wasn’t hurt.
Alcohol was not a factor in this crash, according to the police. Potgeter and Hetland, both of Grand Haven, were wearing their seat belts.
