VICKSBURG, Mich. (WOOD) — A public health advisory for Sunset Lake in Kalamazoo County remains in effect due to high levels of E. coli.
Samples taken on June 20 and 27 from the bathing beach area at Sunset Lake Park on Page Street in the village of Vicksburg failed Michigan’s Water Quality Standards for total body contact.
E. coli levels at Sunset Lake were 600.3 per 100 milliliter on June 20, according to health officials. Samples taken a week later had E. coli levels at 579.3 per 100 milliliter. The total body contact standard is 300 E. coli per 100 milliliter.
Signs have been posted at the beach warning the public to use caution when coming into contact with the water at Sunset Lake.
Kalamazoo County Environmental Health will collect water samples again on Wednesday. Those results will be available Thursday morning.
