Kalamazoo County Undersheriff Paul Matyas tells 24 Hour News 8 that Spaulding is a person of interest in the 1983 death of 16-year-old Eric Cross.

His body was found in Brady Township, near the village of Vicksburg, on June 26, 1983. He had gone to a party and was walking home when he was hit by a vehicle and killed. Witnesses reported seeing two men and woman in the vehicle.

In March, Matyas announced that there were now five suspects in the cold case.
