GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Fireworks will light up the sky in downtown Grand Rapids Saturday night.
It marks the sixth year for the Amway Family Fireworks, which promises to be bigger than ever before.
Activities, including games, food trucks, and vendor exhibits, begin at 6 p.m. at Ah-Nah-Awen Park. This year there will be four bands playing 45 minute sets, including Air National Guard Band of the Midwest, Upstage Crew Blues Band, DJ Monica Parker and Hey Marco.
Families can also take part in the Amway Family Zone which will have free face painting, water tattoos, and balloon characters from 7-9 p.m.
The fireworks show will begin at 10:30 p.m. Organizers expect around 125,000 people to watch the display. People are encouraged to get there early.

The fireworks display will happen on July 2 this year instead of July 4. The city made the change in 2014 to move the fireworks to a Saturday night, even if the Fourth of July does not fall on the same day.
David Madiol of Amway community relations said the change was made so that people could also go to their community fireworks display which typically are held on the Fourth of July. He said it’s also easier for families to come out on a Saturday rather than a weeknight.
“It’s a really important day for Grand Rapids, for the nation, it’s our birthday. Amway is American Way…so it’s always been something that we’ve had close to our hearts,” said Madiol.
