Police search for suspect after standoff in GR

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Police in Grand Rapids are searching for a suspect involved in an assault and standoff.

On Friday, police shut down the 400 block of Cedar Street NE for several hours due to a barricaded fugitive who was wanted for allegedly assaulting a woman on Thursday.

Several charges have been filed against Brian Scott Heard, 26, including unlawful imprisonment, assault and interfering with 911 communications.

Police say around 1 p.m. officers spotted Heard in the 400 block of Cedar Street NE in a vehicle. He then got out of the car and is believed to have ran to nearby relative’s home.

Officers surrounded the house and tried to get Heard to exit.

Once a search warrant was signed, police went into the house but no one was inside.

Heard’s whereabouts are unknown at this time. Police say he should be considered armed and dangerous.
