1 thrown from vehicle in crash near Sparta

ALGOMA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities say alcohol was likely a factor in a Tuesday car crash northeast of Sparta that left one man in the hospital.

It happened around 4:20 p.m. at the intersection of Pine Island Drive and 14 Mile Road in Algoma Township, according to the Kent County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say 55-year-old Randolph Galaszewski of Grand Rapids was driving east on 14 Mile when he failed to obey the stop sign at Pine Island. His Jeep was struck by a southbound pickup truck.

Galaszewski was not wearing his seat belt, according to authorities, and was ejected from the Jeep. He was rushed to the hospital with internal injuries. His condition was not known Tuesday night.

Neither the driver of the pickup, a 21-year-old Algoma Township man, nor his passenger, a 19-year-old woman from Alpine Township, were hurt.

The sheriff’s office says alcohol use on Galaszewski’s part is believed to have been a factor in the crash.
