MEARS, Mich. (WOOD) — A man who accidentally shot himself while camping near Silver Lake may face charges after he fired a second shot because he was upset.
The 48-year-old man from Macomb was staying at Jellystone Campground, located on W. Hazel Road in Mears, when the shooting happened around 8:45 p.m. Sunday.
He told deputies he didn’t think the 9 mm pistol was loaded when he accidentally shot himself across the left hand, according to a release from the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities say he then fired off another round into the bed of the camper he was staying in because he was upset that he had hurt himself.
The man was taken to a hospital in Shelby by people he was camping with.
He could face charges including reckless discharge of a firearm.
