GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A former Grand Rapids police officer who is currently serving time in prison for sexually assaulting his ex-girlfriend was sentenced on child porn charges.

Ryan Bruggink was sentenced Tuesday to five months in jail for possession of sexually abusive material and 16 to 84 months for using a computer to commit a crime. He pleaded guilty on June 15.

The crimes happened in various locations between Aug. 1 and Nov. 1, 2014. According to court documents, the alleged victim in the case is a 17-year-old who sent Bruggink several pornographic pictures. He allegedly shared those pictures with others.

Bruggink had “a relationship” with the victim when she was 17, according to court documents.

The sentence will not extend Bruggink’s imprisonment because the judge has ordered it be served concurrent with his current two to 15 year prison sentence for sexually assault his ex-girlfriend.

In March, Bruggink was found guilty by a Kent County jury after his ex-girlfriend said he had forced his way into her home and sexually assaulted her. He was found not guilty of two other criminal sexual conduct charges and a charge of first-degree home invasion.
