Woman, 76, hurt in crash in Allendale Twp.

ALLENDALE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A 76-year-old Hudsonville woman was seriously hurt in a two-car crash Wednesday.

The crash happened around 2:15 p.m. at the intersection of 56th Avenue and Pierce Street in Allendale Township, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say the driver of a Chevrolet Express was headed west on Pierce and stopped at the stop sign at 56th before proceeding into the intersection and hit a northbound Honda Odyssey.

The front-seat passenger in the Odyssey, Florence Schreuer, was rushed to a Grand Rapids hospital in serious condition. The driver, 78-year-old Arnold Schreuer, sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

The driver of the Express, 33-year-old Daniel Luyk of Wyoming, wasn’t hurt.

According to the sheriff’s office, Luyk said he thought the intersection was a four-way stop when in fact traffic on 56th does not have a stop sign. He was cited for failing to yield the right of way.
