Midwest Wheelchair Tennis Championships in Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The Midwest Wheelchair Tennis Championships are taking place this weekend in Grand Rapids.

Three team USA Paralympians who will be heading the Rio Paralympic Games in September highlighted the event, including Emmy Kaiser.

Kaiser won her semifinal match on Saturday. She will take on Kaitlyn VerFurth in the women’s open signals final on Sunday.

On the men’s side, top seed and Michigan native Bryan Barten captured the quad open singles title.

“This tournament is a great warmup for me for the Paralympics in Rio. I will be playing here this weekend and then I’m off to Europe to play three tournaments. All the match play I get right now is going to really help me when I hit the courts in Rio,” said Barten.
