Authorities: Teen lied about attempted abduction

PARK TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Police say a 14-year-old girl admitted she lied about an attempted abduction in Ottawa County over the weekend.

The teen originally told police she was walking along a Park Township boardwalk Sunday afternoon when she was approached by a man who asked if she wanted to buy some popcorn and come back to his van. She said she told him no and he grabbed her wrist before she was able to kick him and get away.

After further investigation, police determined her story was made up. The 14-year-old girl also admitted she lied, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department.

The case will be sent to the prosecutor’s office for review.
