STANTON, Mich. (WOOD) — A Wyoming man has been charged with causing a crash in Montcalm County that left a married couple dead.

The crash happened on the evening of May 1 on M-66 in Belvidere Township, north of the community of Six Lakes. Raymond and Mary Wrona, both 88 and from Grand Rapids, were killed.

The Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office says Joel Ibarra, 26, of Wyoming was arrested Monday afternoon in connection to the crash. He was charged with four 15-year felonies: two charges of operating while under the influence of a controlled substance causing death and two charges of reckless driving causing death.

Authorities say Ibarra was trying to pass multiple vehicles when his 2012 Audi S4 hit the Wronas’ 1999 Buick LeSabre head-on.

Ibarra has been released from jail on a $35,000 bond.
