US-31 and I-96 reopens after flooding, crashes

NORTON SHORES, Mich. (WOOD) –  US-31 at I-96 in Norton Shores is back open to drivers after multiple accidents on the highways.

In a tweet posted Friday morning, the police department urged drivers to find a detour because the highway was flooded in both directions. The water receded and the roadway reopened about an hour later, police said.

A rain storm settled over the area Friday, after a series rain soaked parts of West Michigan the day before.

Norton Shores police said the Michigan Department of Transportation will be monitoring the conditions in case additional rain leads to more flooding.

It’s unclear if anyone was injured in the crashes.
