CHESTER TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a crash that killed a Newaygo County man.
A homeowner leaving for work came across the crash around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to a sheriff’s department news release. The homeowner checked the driver and found he was not breathing.
Authorities believe Gricel Ramirez was traveling west on Coolidge Street when he missed the stop sign where the road ends at 40th Avenue in Chester Township, southeast of Ravenna. Deputies say his GMC Yukon crossed the roadway and crashed into a ditch.
Ramirez died at the scene.
The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office said the 32-year-old from Grant was not wearing a seat belt. They believe alcohol played a role in the crash.
