Explore the city at Avenue for the Arts

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) – Some of the area’s most creative makers are located within walking distance of each other in Grand Rapids… all along the Avenue for the Arts. This Friday, August 5th, you’re invited to come and meet them and see what they’ve been making. Featured artist Krista Pischner and Jenn Schaub, the coordinator of Avenue for the Arts, were with us in studio

Bring your friends and family to experience summer First Fridays: The Market returning on August 5th, from 6-9pm with new vendors, an amazing lineup of outdoor entertainment, 14 art exhibitions, local shopping at it’s best and…. Beer!

With live performances, art, and sales at local businesses there is something for everyone. You might be asking yourself, what is First Fridays: The Market? This monthly event, takes place along the Avenue for the Arts, the South Division corridor between Fulton and Wealthy. Featuring a local gallery and shop hop, live music, local food and sidewalks flooded with local artisans, there is tons to explore!

What to do:

  • Enjoy live jazz, world blues and rock music performances by: Brad Fritcher, Unity Drum and Dance and Take3.
  • Shop 50 local vendors alongside locally owned stores.
  • Experience 14 new art shows and exhibitions.
  • Join Dwelling Place for the Neighborhood Happy Hour and preview Atwater Brewery beer and food from Heartside restaurants!

The Avenue for the Arts provides venues within walking distance of each other, street vendors and entertainment. A number of participating gallery spaces along South Division will feature gallery openings, including 106 Gallery, Spiral, and 337 Project Space. Local businesses such as Woosah, Bombadil Books, Have Company, Vertigo Records and Dime and Regal will have extended hours, sales and specials. The August First Friday marks the grand opening of Cerasus Studio, an educational gallery that partners art students and recent graduates with professional artists to create collaborative exhibitions located on 120 South Division, unit 126, Find out more about Cerasus Studio’s inaugural exhibition Black Borders on their website https://cerasusstudio.wordpress.com/. Don’t miss the third show opening in The Collective Artspace, an exhibition and studio space that provides artists with opportunities to show, make, and discuss art on 40 South Division.
