AETNA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Two Newaygo County men are in the hospital after their vehicle crashed into a tree.
The crash happened just before 8:30 p.m. Tuesday on Jefferson Road, west of 200th Avenue in Mecosta County’s Aetna Township, near Morley.
Neighbors called authorities after hearing screeching tires and a loud crash. Deputies believe the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control on a curve and veered off the road, hitting the tree.
A 22-year-old passenger in the vehicle was airlifted to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition Wednesday. The driver, a 23-year-old man, was taken to a Big Rapids hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Deputies believe alcohol played a role in the crash, which remains under investigation.
