GRAND HAVEN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A Grand Haven-area man may face charges after authorities say he crashed his car while driving drunk.
The crash happened around 4:25 a.m. Sunday on 156th Avenue and Buchanan Street in Grand Haven Township, south of the city of Grand Haven, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities say the man was driving north on 156th at a high rate of speed when he didn’t properly navigate the T-intersection at Buchanan. His vehicle went off the embankment at the north side of the intersection and hit a tree before coming to a stop in the woods at the bottom of the hill.
The man was pinned in his car for “an extended period of time” before he was freed by firefighters, the sheriff’s office said. He was taken to Mercy Hospital and listed in stable condition Sunday.
Authorities say alcohol was a factor in the crash. The man’s name was not released pending possible charges.
