GARFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — An elderly man was killed and three others were hospitalized after a crash east of Fremont Sunday afternoon.
The two-vehicle crash happened around 12:30 p.m. at the intersection of W. 48th Street and S. Croswell Avenue in Garfield Township.
According to a release from Michigan State Police, a pickup truck was traveling north on Croswell Avenue when the driver failed to yield after stopping for a stop sign at 48th Street and hit a minivan heading east on 48th Street.
The driver of the northbound vehicle, a 77-year-old Newaygo woman, suffered critical injuries and was flown to Spectrum Hospital in Grand Rapids. A passenger in that vehicle, a 79-year-old man from Newaygo, died at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle that was hit, a 75-year-old Edmore man, was taken to Spectrum Hospital in Fremont for non-life threatening injuries. A 73-year-old woman from Edmore, who was riding in the vehicle, was taken to the hospital for her injuries and later released.
The names of the victims have not been released.
Police say alcohol is not believed to be a factor. The crash remains under investigation.
