Bicyclist critically injured in passing crash near Ludington

HAMLIN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Investigators say a West Michigan man was critically injured when his bicycle collided with a passing vehicle.

The crash happened around 5:15 p.m. Monday on Dewey Road near Sherman Road in Mason County’s Hamlin Township, north of Ludington.

According to the Mason County Sheriff, 28-year-old Devon Hansen of Ludington was turning left into a driveway when his bicycle hit a Jeep that had slowed and changed lanes to pass him. Hansen was flown to a Grand Rapids hospital where he was listed in critical condition Tuesday.

The driver of the car, a 38-year-old woman from Ludington, was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.
