BANGOR, Mich. (WOOD) — The National Weather Service says six tornadoes swept through West Michigan Saturday.
The NWS confirmed on Monday that a tornado touched down about 1.5 miles southwest of Bangor around 1:13 p.m. Saturday. It rated as an EF-1, packing winds between 90 and 110 mph.
The twister tracked northeast, cutting a path of destruction through True Blue Farms along County Road 215. The funnel also damaged Columbia Township Hall in Grand Junction and made its way into southern Allegan County before lifting around 103rd Avenue west of 52nd Street, according to the NWS.
The NWS also confirmed an EF-1 tornado touched down southeast of Jamestown in Ottawa County around 2:18 p.m. They said that was separate from the EF-1 tornado that touched down in the Fennville area around 1:42 p.m. and tracked ten miles before lifting east of Hamilton. They cited a gap in the damage path west of Burnips resulting in two separate tornadoes.
According to the NWS, an EF-0 tornado was on the ground in Grandville and Wyoming for about 10 minutes before another EF-0 tornado hit northeast Grand Rapids.
An EF-1 tornado also tracked eight miles through Orleans and Fenwick in Ionia and Montcalm counties.
So far, there are no reports of injuries from the storm system, which spawned four EF-1 and two EF-0 tornadoes during approximately two hours. The twisters damaged homes, flipped cars and downed trees in six counties.
The American Red Cross said it would provide an evening meal Tuesday for people affected by the tornadoes at Bangor Church of Christ. People can start arriving at the church, located 214 N. Walnut Street, at 5 p.m. and the meal will be served starting at 5:30 p.m.
The Red Cross also said it will serve lunch between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Wednesday — and Thursday if needed — at the Bangor American Legion, which is located at 19 N. Center Street.
