GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Grand Rapids police are urging customers and businesses to be vigilant after receiving numerous complaints about bogus bills circulating within the city.
Officers say suspects are circulating fake money meant as a movie prop. The false bills look like real money with the exception of the inscription “For Motion Picture Use Only.” The phrase is printed on both sides of the fake bills.
Police say the fraud typically involves transactions at gas stations, restaurants and on Craigslist online. People are urged to closely examine any cash they receive.
Police say the person or people responsible for circulating the fake money could face jail or prison time.
