KENTWOOD, Mich. (WOOD) — Around 1,400 Consumers Energy customers in metro Grand Rapids lost power for a time Sunday evening after a car crash damaged a power pole.

The crash happened just before 6:10 p.m. on Kalamazoo Avenue just north of 44th Street in Kentwood. The car hit a utility pole guy wire, causing the top of the pole to snap off.

Consumers Energy’s interactive power outage map showed about 1,400 people in the area lost power. By 7:30 p.m., less than 200 were still without service. Power was initially expected to be back for everyone by 10:30 p.m., but that was later pushed back to 2 a.m.

Kalamazoo Avenue was shut down while Consumers worked to fix the pole.
