HOLLAND, Mich. (WOOD) Play is an important part of a child’s development, though not every community has a public play area. In August, elected officials, local businesses, HGTV star Carter Oosterhouse, and local kids joined together to raise money and build a community playground at Holland State Park.
Carter Oosterhouse created Carter’s Kids ten years ago because he wanted young people to have a place to go where they could take part in activities to increase health, self-esteem, and overall well-being. The Holland State Park crowdfunding campaign, which helped build the playground, met its goal of $17,000 in less than one week.
Carter Oosterhouse, his wife Amy Smart, and volunteers have so far built six playgrounds in Michigan – two in Traverse City, two in Petoskey, and one each in Frankfort, Grand Haven, and now Holland. If you know of a school, city park, recreation center, or daycare center that needs a play space, contact Carter’s Kids by emailing Info@Carters-Kids.Org.
