HOLLAND, Mich. (WOOD) — Crash witnesses are being credited for rescuing a Holland woman as flames engulfed her vehicle.
The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department says a four-vehicle crash on U.S. 31 at 8th Avenue sparked the fire. Investigators say 37-year-old Barbuhelga Coleman failed to stop at the intersection, driving into the path of a second vehicle around 2:45 p.m. Tuesday. The second vehicle hit a third car which hit in turn hit a fourth vehicle.
Sgt. Matt Wildfong said witnesses pulled Coleman from her burning car and dragged her to safety. She was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
No others were injured in the crash, which temporarily shut down the highway for about a half hour.
Authorities said Coleman was ticketed for failing to stop at a red light.
