PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — The South Bend Cubbies were unquestionably one of the best teams in the Midwest League this season, but in a best of three series, the Whitecaps like their chances.

The Whitecaps and Cubbies met Wednesday night in Game 1 of their first round playoff series.

With two outs after 11 long innings, it was Jose Zambrano who ended it with a single to center field, driving in the game winner, 3-2.

“Everybody talks about our lack of power but we’re a team that’s scrappy the whole way through it. That’s what we did tonight,” said team manager Andrew Graham.

The Whitecaps head to South Bend for their next game.
