PARK TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities say a body pulled from Lake Michigan near Holland State Park is likely that of a 17-year-old presumed drowned last week.

Around 2:25 p.m. Friday, the body of a male was recovered about 300 yards north of pier at Holland State Park, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Cal Keuning.

The body is believed to be that of 17-year-old Christopher Mimis, Keuning said. An autopsy will be conducted.

Authorities say Mimis and 14-year-old Vincent Green went missing in the lake the evening of Aug. 31 after they were caught up in a current while swimming with friends. Two other teens were able to escape the water.

Using divers, sonar and a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter, crews searched the lake for Mimis’ body for about three days, but could not find him. The Chicago native leaves behind a 3-month-old daughter.

Green’s body was found the day after he went missing.
