SWARTZ CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — A missing exotic cat that prompted a shelter in place at a school near Flint has been reunited with its owners.
The 40 pound caracal named Ameera, which looks similar to cougars, was reported missing Thursday morning near Morrish Elementary in Swartz Creek.
The district issued a shelter in place until the cat was caught.
Ameera returned home later Thursday on its own, according to WEYI-TV who had a crew on scene when the cat approached its owner.
Katelin Howell posted on Facebook thanking people for helping in the search.
“She’s a little tired, hot, scared and covered in burs but overall she is doing well,” Howell wrote.
The owners say the cat is domesticated and submissive.
