PAW PAW, Mich. (WOOD) — A Paw Paw man was arrested after authorities found more than half a pound of marijuana and 1,000 prescription pills in his car during a traffic stop.

Wednesday, according to the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy spotted the 24-year-old driving 82 mph in a 55 mph zone on 32nd Street near 42nd Avenue in rural Almena Township, northeast of Paw Paw.

The sheriff’s office said that when the deputy pulled the man over, he saw marijuana in plain sight in the car. A search of the car revealed more marijuana and the prescription pills. The driver later apparently admitted he was going to deliver the drugs to various places in Van Buren County.

Deputies also seized money from the suspect under civil forfeiture laws.

Only five hours earlier, the driver had pleaded guilty to possession of marijuana in a separate case.

The case will be forwarded to Van Buren County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
