ZEELAND, Mich. (WOOD) — Two teenagers are facing serious felony charges for threatening several Zeeland High School students on Instagram.
The students reported the threats to a school officer and administrators around 7:30 a.m. Friday, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department Capt. Mark Bennett.
Bennett said the two suspects – a 16-year-old and a 15-year-old from Zeeland East High School – were quickly identified in the case and interviewed by investigators.
Bennett said the boys admitted to making the threats, claiming it was a joke.
“While the post was not intended as a real threat, the District takes all possible threats as extremely serious,” Zeeland Public Schools stated in a tweet.
Both teenagers were removed from school and handed over to their parents, but have been referred to juvenile court where they will face charges.
