ROYALTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Deputies in Berrien County say they have identified the driver who took off after a fatal crash.

It happened at 3:27 a.m. Sunday on Scottdale Road near West Rockey Weed Road in Royalton Township, southeast of the community of Hollywood. The Berrien County Sheriff’s Office says a 1999 Honda traveling southbound collided with a northbound 1998 Buick.

The driver of the Buick was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities later identified him as Jason Ransom, 36, of Niles.

The driver of the Honda and one of his passengers fled. Sunday afternoon, the sheriff’s office said the driver had been identified but did not release his name.

Two other passengers in the Honda remained at the scene after the crash.

Deputies say alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.
