GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — ArtPrize Eight officials have changed the way attendees can register to vote this year.

The first round of voting begins Wednesday at noon.

In order to vote, you need to download the ArtPrize Eight app, which is available for iOS and android systems. Once inside the app store, just search “ArtPrize Grand Rapids.”

There used to be voting sites in years past, but ArtPrize officials said that they received feedback from visitors that led them to change that.

Officials said that they want to be more welcoming, so they’ve expanded the ArtPrize Hub services to eight hubs throughout downtown.

Every hub will have volunteers who can help attendees register and talk about artwork in that area.

A passport incentive program will roll out this year to try to get the more than 400,000 visitors to stop by more venues.

Those who get a passport stamp at all eight hubs and attend the ArtPrize Eight Watch Party, could win some big prizes.

Another change this year is that voters no longer have to be 18 years old. ArtPrize officials lowered the age requirement to 13 because you only have to be 13 to register for an email address, which is needed to start an account.

Inside the app there are options to find venues near you or more information on the artwork you’re viewing.

Each person who registers will have to be in the boundaries of downtown Grand Rapids to complete registration and eventually vote.

Todd Herring, ArtPrize director of creative and communications, said that there are no rules when it comes to choosing who to vote for.

He said people should choose artwork they feel was successful in achieving some sort of reaction or what you feel the artist was trying to achieve.

“[Choose] artwork that moves you or draws your attention in one way or another,” Herring said. “There really are no rules in that situation. It’s up to you, and you can vote for as many of the 1,453 entries as you feel fits whatever success metric you apply to that situation. But, only one vote per entry.”

The first round of voting runs from Sept. 21 at noon until Oct. 1 at 11:59 p.m. ArtPrize ends on Oct. 9.
