Police: Kzoo man found on bench dies from injuries

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — Police say a man who was assaulted and found on a bench in Kalamazoo earlier this month has died.

The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety identified the victim as George Ralph Carlisle, 58, from Kalamazoo. Officers found him sitting on a bench in the 800 block of W. Michigan Avenue on the night of Sept. 7 with injuries to his head and face.

Police say they were able to identify a suspect, also a Kalamazoo resident, during their investigation. He was arrested on other unrelated charges.

The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety said in a release that a case for involuntary manslaughter will be requested through the prosecutor’s office. The suspect’s name will not be released unless charges are issued and he is arraigned.

Police are still awaiting autopsy results, however, they say complications from blunt force trauma is a contributing factor to the victim’s death.
