2 hospitalized after fleeing from police, crash near Ionia

IONIA, Mich. (WOOD) — Two people were injured after the driver crashed while trying to get away from police.

Ionia County Dispatch alerted police agencies to be on the lookout for a black SUV which had hit a parked car and then drove away from Ionia Department of Public Safety officers around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday.

A Michigan State Police trooper located the vehicle around 9:50 p.m. on the north side of Ionia and attempted to pull it over, but again the driver didn’t stop.

The driver instead went eastbound on Nickel Plate Road where he lost control of the SUV near Stage Road and crashed.

The two people in the vehicle were taken to a hospital in serious but stable condition.

The 36-year-old male driver and a 42-year-old female passenger are both from the Ionia area and were wanted on outstanding warrants, according to police.

The man is expected to be charged with multiple counts of felony flee and elude. It’s unclear if the passenger will face any charges.
