GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The new development on Grand Rapids’ West Side has spurred more growth for the area more than just New Holland Brewing Co.’s Knickerbocker Pub.

Right next door to the Kinckerbocker Pub, The Mitten State — a clothing store — has opened up its new shop, located at 415 Bridge St. NW.

“It’s a really exciting time to open up a store and be here for a while and see the whole area grow around us,” said Will Brandsdorfer, another one of the owners of The Mitten State.

The company had previously operated a store in Grand Rapids’ Eastown neighborhood for two years.

“When we set up our Eastown shop we had an idea that there was going to be some development going on the West Side. Knowing that we kind of went into the east side with our shop being created see how it worked out,” said Scott Zubrickas, one of The Mitten State’s owners.

If you’re not familiar with their T-shirts, they are all about Michigan with things printed on them like “America’s high five,” “I heart Faygo” and “Love Lake Michigan.”

For the company, the West Side was a natural fit. A lot of their merchandise is licensed so being just down the road from the Michigan State University’s College of Human Medicine and Grand Valley State University’s downtown campus made sense.

“I think it’s just the amount of new stuff coming in and seeing people in this neighborhood that you might normally not otherwise see because there is so much excitement around the buildings and businesses and residences coming in here,” said Brandsdorfer.

If you can’t make it to their store, they sell all their t-shirts and then some online as well.
