DELTA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — The search for a potential body turned into a giant drug bust Friday that shut down Interstate 96 near Lansing.

Around 2:40 a.m., Eaton County Sheriff’s deputies received a tip from a passerby who thought they had seen a man carrying a blanket-wrapped body into a wooded area off I-96 at the entrance to eastbound I-496 in Delta Township.

As daylight broke, authorities discovered several small fields of an illegal marijuana growing operation and the blanket, which contained marijuana plants.

Our Lansing sister station WLNS reports a man wanted on unrelated warrants was arrested.

Investigators shut down the nearby highway to ensure the safety of deputies and firefighters investigating the report.
