KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — Western Michigan and Central Michigan will meet for their rivalry game Saturday to open MAC play with a bang.
The Western Michigan Broncos and the Central Michigan Chippewas will play under the lights at Kelly Shorts Stadium in Mt. Pleasant.
The Victory Cannon goes to the winner. The trophy has spent the last two years in Kalamazoo.
“I think for people outside of the program, this is a bigger game,” Broncos quarterback Zach Terrell said. “And I definitely understand that. Being a part of it, and this is my fifth year being a part of it, it is a very heated rivalry. I mean, two years ago they didn’t even shake my hand when we went out for the coin toss. And I don’t think I understood the magnitude, even in playing the year before that, until that game. ”
“It’s going to be an emotional game, but we have a good group of guys who can stay focused. It’s just 1-0 is all you get if you win this game. It’s not like you have anything extra, it’s just going to be 1-0,” Chippewas quarterback Cooper Rush said.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. The game will be televised live on CBS Sports Network.
