GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (WOOD) — The Grand Haven Department of Public Safety is reminding residents to never give out personal information to strangers after a would-be donor to the agency was scammed out of money.
The Grand Haven resident told officers the male suspect called Tuesday, saying he represented the Grand Haven Police Department and was asking for donations. The suspect asked for the victim’s credit card or bank account routing number, which the victim provided.
The Grand Haven Department of Public Safety says it is not soliciting donations and people should always investigate a charity before making a donation.
The incident remains under investigation.
Grand Haven residents who suspect they’re being scammed should call the Grand Haven DPS at 616.842.3460.
