Deputies: Man in critical condition after shooting near GVSU campus

ALLENDALE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Ottawa County sheriff’s deputies say a man is in critical condition after a shooting near the Grand Valley State University campus.

It happened at the Lake Michigan Drive Apartment complex at 4415 Lake Michigan Drive around 2 a.m. Saturday.

Deputies tell 24 Hour News 8 that they responded to a call of shots fired at the complex, and when they arrived, they found the victim, a 28-year-old man from Grand Rapids, in the parking lot who had been shot. The victim was conscious and alert when they arrived.

The victim was taken to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital in critical condition. Deputies say he is undergoing surgery

GVSU sent an alert to students after the shooting, saying the victim is not a student at the university.

Our crew also saw a vehicle being searched by several deputies on Lake Michigan Drive. Deputies say the vehicle is connected to the shooting, but would not say how.

Deputies say two suspects are in custody, and they are searching for a black, four-door sedan that may connected to an additional witness.
