DECATUR TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — An 18-year-old from the east side of the state died Saturday, a week after he was involved in a crash near the southwestern Michigan village of Decatur.
The Chevrolet HHR the man was driving crashed at the intersection of 36th Street at 96th Avenue in Decatur Township around 11:30 p.m. Sept. 24, according to the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office.
The driver and his passenger, a 15-year-old from Paw Paw, were both trapped in the vehicle and had to be freed by township firefighters. The driver was airlifted to the hospital and the 15-year-old taken to the hospital via ambulance.
The 18-year-old died Oct. 1, the sheriff’s office said Sunday. His name was not released.
The 15-year-old’s condition was not included in the update from the sheriff’s office.
The cause of the single-vehicle crash is not yet clear.
