KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — On man was arrested early Sunday after allegedly attacking a Kalamazoo police officer who was investigating a possible domestic assault and drug case.

The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety says the possible assault was reported to a downtown beat officer just before 1:30 a.m. Sunday. The officer soon found the couple described in that incident, then discovered marijuana and tried to arrest the man involved.

However, police say a 28-year-old Kalamazoo man stepped in, assaulting the officer before running off. The officer chased and tackled the man. There was a struggle that ended with the officer arresting the man.

Police say both the officer and the 28-year-old sustained minor injuries. The 28-year-old was treated with basic first aid and then jailed on charges of resisting and obstructing a police officer.

Meanwhile, the man involved in the possible assault and marijuana also took off. He has not been identified, according to KDPS.
