GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — This week brought more presidential politics to Michigan. Donald Trump was back in the state and the wife of the Democratic vice presidential candidate Sen. Tim Kaine, Anne Holton was campaigning in Grand Rapids.
Anne Holton has a rich political past herself. She was the daughter of the first Republican governor of Virginia since reconstruction and later served as first lady of the state when Kaine was governor.
Rick Albin asked her about her long connection to politics and her assessment of the current cycle.
“It does feel like this is a cycle with some very, very, stark choices” she said. “What I took away from my childhood was that we can move somewhere like Virginia forward on race relations and that’s a really, really important thing when we have leadership that helps bring people together. I really believe the stronger together movement that is Hillary’s motto, and some of the divisive rhetoric in this cycle that wants to push people apart is very, very troubling.”
