GRAND RAPIDS, Mich (WOOD) The art of fashion is taking center stage next week at Van Andel Institute. The popular Couture for a Cure event is back, bringing the hottest trends from the runway to Grand Rapids to benefit research happening right here in our own community. Carol Van Andel of Van Andel Institute and Candace Matthews, chief marketing officer for Amway joined eightWest to talk about the event.
The event takes place on Thursday, October 13, 2016. The event will focus on cancers that affect women and 100% of the proceeds will go to research at VAI. This year’s Couture for a Cure will feature the work of nationally-known fashion designer Wes Gordon, his fashions have been worn by the likes of Michelle Obama and Selena Gomez. Gordon will be attending the event as well.
Couture for a Cure is the premier fashion event in Grand Rapids and serves as an educational event as well, to bring the public up to speed on the research being done at the Van Andel Institute. This year they are highlighting the story of Trina Issac Taylor, she has been diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal cancer and is on clinical trials due to the work of the team at VAI.
