PINE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A man was hospitalized Monday after an explosion in his camper in rural Montcalm County.
It happened around 11 a.m. in the 1500 block of N. Greenville Road in the Langston area, according to Michigan State Police.
Police say the 41-year-old man tried to kill himself using a shotgun, which his sister took from him before he could hurt himself. He went into the camper trailer where he was staying, at which point there was an explosion and he was thrown from the camper.
He managed to get the shotgun again, but another resident took it from him.
The man, who 24 Hour News 8 is not identifying, sustained third-degree burns and was rushed to a hospital in Greenville. Police did not know his condition Monday afternoon.
The camper was destroyed in the explosion and subsequent fire. The cause of that explosion is not yet known, police said.
No one else was hurt.
