Wrong-way driver on I-94 arrested for OWI

ANTWERP TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Police arrested an alleged drunk driver who drove the wrong way on I-94 in Kalamazoo and Van Buren counties.

The vehicle was first reported traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes on I-94 near 9th Street in Texas Township around 12:30 a.m. Monday.

Troopers and officers from various agencies stopped all traffic in the eastbound lanes of I-94 at the 63 mile marker near Paw Paw. Police used their vehicles to protect the other drivers on the freeway.

Officers were able to stop the suspect’s vehicle before any crashes occurred.

The 63-year-old Portage woman was arrested for operating while intoxicated (second offense), possession of dangerous drugs and reckless driving. She is being held at the Van Buren County Jail pending her arraignment.
